Since our son has been cosleeping with us, we haven't done anything
with his room. He doesn't even go in there except to maybe pull a book
or toy out of a box (he spends most time downstairs, outside, etc.)

So we're thinking of moving him to his own bed in his room
(eventually) and would like to decorate it.

I'd love to paint it like the jungle, under the sea, a castle.. but we
can't paint. I mean, we can, i can draw a little, but it would be very
amateurish and probably crappy looking. And then if he grows bored of
it? or doesn't like it? lol

So we could just do plain paint.. blue.. or some color.. maybe half
color up top and different below but there's painting...

wallpaper...

murals, but they are expensive.

just wondering what other ideas are out there or are painting and
wallpaper pretty much tried and true?

Honestly, I would stick with a more flexible paint color
on the wall and do the decorating with things that are more
easily swapped in and out as a child's preferences change.
It's not all that hard to paint, of course, but I'm just not
that keen on investing so much time and effort in painted murals
that are not likely to have a lot of longevity.  I don't enjoy
stripping wallpaper either, so I tend to avoid that.  I like
the "bones" of the room (the more difficult or expensive things
to change, like walls, major furniture, big rugs) to be more
flexible.  I play around with the other stuff (accessories, art,
smaller furniture, bed linens, curtains, etc.).  If you start
with a flexible base to the room, changing out accessories can
create a dramatic change without spending a fortune or taking
up a whole weekend.

yeah good idea ericka. I did talk with my wife at lunch and this is
what we decided to do. a nice base paint, or heck, leave it as is
(white) and then accessorize.
