The suggestion to plant certain vegetables was a great idea. I've been doing veggie gardening for a few years now, and I can tell you that the kids will eat peas, beans and tomatoes as they are outside playing.(only one will eat the beans raw but she'll eat anything!) Also melons, but they aren't as easy to just pick and eat.(I don't use any chemicals on teh garden so no rinsing is required) You can try to plant a few pea plants bordering the play area. They are very, very easy to grow. Strawberries were easy at first but now mine aren't producing, plus the birds have been eating what was growing. This is my first year with those.
