I'm not trying to avoid sugar completely, its pretty
impossible anyway and I wouldn't want to. I just don't want
to candy him up or give him too much and start giving him
cavities. That's all.

sugar isn't evil, as long as you moderate usage.

Was just curious also as to what others give their kids
when it comes to sweets, or what they avoid and what not.

i do not allow artificial sweeteners of any kind (i have the
supertaster gene. i find them all revolting). i also do not
allow high fructose corn syrup. regular corn syrup is fine,
but the high fructose crap, no way. eliminating that from our
diets has pretty much removed all prepackaged foods however...
not an issue here, but you may not be ready for that yet. i
can find hamburger buns without HFCS,for example, but not hot
dog buns. of course, hot dog buns require a bit more fiddling
than burger buns ;) i have pans for baking both however & it's
really less effort than bread.
unfortunately, no more Oreos, but we're saving a fortune on
soda pop.
