I gave my firstborn candy for the first time when she was 1. It was at Easter, and I put her on the floor with a Cadberry Egg. She went to town!! I limited candy with the little kids but they did have it. My youngest was sucking candy canes when she was a baby. There are no food allergies in our families and I didn't worry about it.
With waffles we do peanut butter mostly. I like how it tates with melted peanut butter. I can't handle sugar well anymore in my "old age" but as a child I was fine with it.
