my brother is a CNC programmer. he went to trade school, not
college.

I never heard of that occupation, even though I program computers in
my job. It's described at http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos286.htm if anyone
else is wondering what it is.

he also was unemployed for 3 years after graduation
(1) because employers not only wanted the trade school
certificate, they wanted 5 years of experience (2).
