it was never really high up, but had entered my mind, so it's good to hear

Well, I love love love my Honda Civic Hybrid. It's excellent. I refuse
to buy a monster sized vehicle because everyone else is under the
mistaken impression they're 'safer.'
Yes, it's annoying that I can't see over the monster truck pulling
aside me, but that's not a good enough reason to go bigger, IMO. And I
live in the Land of Trucks/SUVs are a Birthright ie Texas.
Getting the car seat in and out is no problem whatsoever. It's
comfortable, rides well. Gets 55mph and low on other environmental
pollutants.
I'd second this as well. I don't have the Hybrid - a 2002 LX
4-door - but it works perfectly well for 95% of the driving that
we do with it.
Honestly, most people I know with minivans/SUV's spend the *vast*
majority of on-the-road time with 2 - 4 people in it, max.
The typical justifications of "Oh, but sometime we need the
extra space/etc." don't really cut it with me, as the
5% of the time that it's actually needed can be accomodated
in other ways, and far more cheaply in the long run.
My perspective is that I'd be doing my children a
disservice by driving a vehicle that eats more gas,
pollutes more, and uses more resources when we can do
just as well in a smaller vehicle. Not to mention that
the money we save goes a long way to paying for their
college and fun things. ;-)
