go to: http://www.familykb.com/ and click on the parenting discussion group. The forum draws material from several sources, including the misc.kids newsgroup. A lot of the stuff that the OP sees comes from misc.kids, but it comes from other sources.

That's how I learned of this was through familykb.com

Right. But what you're seeing isn't what we're seeing.
You're getting a mishmash of posts from different newsgroups
all thrown together. Some of the people whose comments you're
objecting to are not posting in misc.kids. Therefore, we don't
see them, because we're reading and posting in misc.kids.
These newsgroups are communities that have existed
for years, and many of the posters here have been around for
a long time. But you're not really getting the feeling of
this community because the posts from here are being mixed
in with posts from other groups as well--groups that have
different groups of participants and different "flavors."
You should also note that while there is some
overlap, it's *not* the same group of people participating
in each of the topic areas you see listed on FamilyKB. They
are different groups of people, and they have very different
atmospheres. This is particularly complicated when one
of the subject areas you click on is drawing from multiple
newsgroups and throwing them all in together.
