Thanks. I need to keep reminding myself that. In fact, one of the
things I detested most as a kid was my mom would discipline us
whenever visitors commented on something we were doing. Usually, we
were allowed to do it, like bike to a store a distance away. They
expressed disapproval and suddenly, we were in trouble for riding our
bike out of bounds! There were no bounds until the visitors made a
comment. I vowed never to do that. I haven't yet. I just have to
keep reminding myself.


Ugh. You poor thing. I guess your mom relied too heavily on the approval
of others, and her lack of trust in herself wound up hurting you. You can't
rely on a parent who bends to the will -- or comments! -- of others. You
never know what you will get and the boundaries are all confused.
