Re: 128 students suspended at Ind. school

nimue,

You didn't respond to this post, and while I know this has been a huge
thread and you can't respond to everyone, I did think I had a good
point, and was wondering what you would respond.

Or how about short-shorts with a
bikini top?

Got me! That WOULD bother me. I've just never seen it. I would
want that
kid to cover up -- but I would also want her in class.

(Don't know if that's showed up in the schools yet, but
it's all over some theme parks and that would have been
unthinkable
when I was a teen).

It seems to me that in some cases, sending them home or offering
alternative clothing, or perhaps putting them in the in-school
suspension room would be the only choices available. I don't know
that alternative clothes are the best idea, but it does seem
better
than sending them home, and I really fail to see how it is
humiliating. A bit embarrassing maybe, but not humiliating.

I don't think you addressed my point though. Most of us have a line
somewhere beyond which clothes are not considered acceptable for
school. Yours is more liberal than some -- more liberal than mine
at least, as I consider "no underwear showing" to be a clear and
easily followed rule. Nonetheless, there is a line, and you don't
get to decide what it should be for your school. If kids cross that
line -- cross *your* line for the sake of discussion -- and they
are not appropriately attired to attend class, what would you do
with them?
