What if the student's family can't afford the necessary supplies?

I was raised by a single divorced mother and had a non suportive father. We
rarely had the money to buy cloths but we ALWAYS had school suplies. Did it
make other aspects of our life suffer? Sometimes, yes. It costs $1 for a
pack of pens at the dollar store. It can cost less at walmart.
