Hi Everyone
Just thought I would update with a success story. A few weeks ago I
posted a thread called 'why won't my two year old sleep' I am sorry I
don't know how to link to this.
Everyone was really kind and took time to give me loads of suggestions
on how to change my dd's sleep patterns, some worked and some didn't.
The good news is TJ is now sleeping in a much better way and getting
the sleep she needs, and is I think, happier for it. I know I am, me
being exhausted all the time was hard on the whole family.
She now goes to bed at 7.30 and is waking between 7 am and 8 am.
I tried a combination of the advice given. Firstly I slept in her room
for a couple of nights to make sure no regular noises in the street
were waking her up causing this problem, we discovered that an urban
fox was using our garden and making a little bit of noise so we used a
video camera to tape the fox to show her where the noise was coming
from and now she knows its not something to be frightened of and has
asked several times to watch the fox again.
Secondly as well as all the reasurance she was already getting I
started to take her drink of water into her room when I went to bed and
with dd being a light sleeper this was making her stir so she got a
quick cuddle and kiss and an 'I love you I'm going to bed now sleep
well' etc This didn't wake her up but seemed to show her I was near by
and calmed her resulting in a good night sleep.
Thirdly I changed her room about with dd choosing (with help) where
everything should go and she now chooses which bedlinen goes onto the
bed. She also chooses what to wear to bed out of two choices. This all
worked a charm, she feels, i think, much more in control of bedtime.
This hasn't been as easy as it sounds and has taken several weeks but I
am confident that we have solved this problem.
Basically thank you to everyone who replied, I think knowing that
support and advice is available is invaluable to parents and just
wanted to share what worked. I am not going to be negative about what
didn't because it wasn't wrong just not suitable for my little one at
this time.
