Thanks to all who have replied. It is good to know that he is moving
along normally :) It is just funny to watch him eat sooo much, where
does it all go? Today he took in 40 oz of breast milk and formula and
it just amazes me. Question to all, when can my wife and I expect to
see him sleeping through a good portion of the night? He is eating
about every 3-4 hours at night and we are both sooo very tired. She is
a stay at home mom but I have to go to work and I am always dragging my
butt!! I own all feedings from 9pm to 3am at which point my wife takes
over until I get home at night and then we share him until she goes to
bed. Everyone told us our life would change, what they neglected to
tell us is how much it would change :) I love my boy sooo much I could
just cry staring at him, I just cannot wait for him to sleep through
the night and go longer in between feedings.
As Ericka said, 5 hours straight is considered "sleeping through" which I
think is absolutely barking mad. Particualarly as at one stage my son used
to sleep 8 pm til 1 am and then up for two hours, down for two, etc for the
other 19 hours. I was going mad but officially this is "sleeping through"!!!
Unfortunately there is no set age when kids will sleep for a consistently
long stretch of time. In my mothers' group we ran the gamut of one who slept
all night without feeding (with interruptions for parents helping her find
her dummy again) from 5 weeks old to my lovely son who didn't give me a
whole night's sleep until he was 11 months old. And both these babies were
exclusively breastfed! The rest of the group, including the bottle fed
babies, all started to sleep for long stretches at night at their own pace,
anywhere between the 5 weeks and 11 months marks.
I think it's great that you help out so much with your son. What time do you
get home?Would it be possible for you to look after your son 6pm (or soon
after) to midnight, while your wife has a sleep, then you get to sleep from
midnight?
