I wonder what's the general policy of any preschool if the kid throws
up in the school? Do all schools call parents and ask the kid be taken
home and not returned until after 24 hours from the time of "incident"?
Is it irrespective of why the kid throws up? I have two very puke-prone
kids if there's such a thing. They throw up if there's anything in
their mouth that's new or if they don't like it. They throw up if they
cough, eat more, or for any other reason. I can't convince the school
teachers that they are not sick. Even if I can, I guess they don't want
to make an exception for just my kids.

Does this rule last till elementary/middle school or is it only a
preschool thing.

(Side bar: I'm teaching the older one (3yo) to aim at the nearest
sink/tub or atleast tiled floor if she ever feels like throwing up.)

The standard rule at both pre-school and infant school here is that they
shouldn't be there within 24 hours of the last throw up and they would
definitely send home any child who had been sick.
To be honest I would be asking questions if a child threw up (unless
obviously induced either accidently or deliberately) and they weren't sent
home.
The 24 hour rule is a bit different. I think there's times when it's
appropriate-if they're still obviously unwell then they shouldn't be back.
but I have to admit to sending #1 after 16 hours when she'd thrown up once
and shown no other signs of being ill.
I'd talk to the pre-school. They may be prepared to take them back sooner,
but I think I'd still expect them to send them home, just in case they are
ill.
The potty makes a good sick bucket too!
