Re: Tiny bumps over baby's body

Our 9 week old has developed small bumps which have moved down from the
face and neck to her whole body. The ones on the legs are practically
invisible, and you can only tell by feeling with the fingers. Some of
the ones on the face are just like pimples with a small whitehead and
slight redness. They don't bother her, and everything else is
absolutely normal (although she is in a 2 day poo cycle at the moment,
which is fun :-) )

I'm thinking neonatal acne, because of the pimple like ones, but over
the whole body? and so late on?

My wife is breastfeeding 85%, and we are giving her one premixed
formula bottle before bed. Could it be a reaction to the milk? It did
start just after the first set of jabs at 8 weeks, could this be a
cause?

If it's no better in the next couple of days, we'll visit the docs, but
are there any other conditions which could cause this, but no other
symptoms?

Sounds like baby eczema to me - probably diet related. Our son had it
really bad - pretty much just a general graininess all over his body,
but primarily on his trunk, face and legs. The only thing that cured
it was switching formula and coating him several times a day with
vaseline - we tried every other cream and ointment made for eczema.
Vaseline did the trick (and still does with his occasional break-outs.)
I would ditch the formula and go from there. Also, be sure to wash
your bedding and his clothing (anything that comes in contact with his
skin) in dye-free and perfume-free detergents, and do not use fabric
softeners. We also switched to using only Johnson's Head-to-Toe baby
wash, no other shampoos or soaps. All of these things aggravated DS's
eczema.

Good luck,
-L.
