A letter to Banty and misc.kids- A thank you

You do not know me, but you have impacted my life and my family's life
beyond comprehension. Approximately 2.5 years ago you responded
lengthily to posts by my husband's ex-wife regarding her plight and
specifically her accusations that I was molesting our youngest child
through "french kissing". In all reality, the responses Karen6281
received by most people on the internet distressed her, and the fact
that she was questioned as to the facts of her stories created more
stress for her than support. You probably do not even remember the
posts in question.
What you do not know is that Karen6281(the non custodial parent) was so
distraught that she told her best friend about her ordeal of lack of
support from misc.kids, etc. Karen also tried to get the support of
her close friends, one in particular phoned me on Christmas Eve 2003 to
let me know that Karen was going to file for sole custody of the
children based upon the accusation that I had sexually molested our
youngest son. Needless to say, it was a devestating time. This friend
also told us that Karen6281 had considerable postings on newsgroups
regarding this, which is how we discovered your involvement.
I am a registered social worker, and was fearful that I would lose my
family and my ability to practice my profession. As a result, I
myself, called in the accusations to our equivalent of Family and
Children Services here in Canada. The saddest part of the situation
was my husband and I were in the process of trying to adopt through the
same organization (which I am sure played a very large part in why the
false accusations were perpetrated). In the end, my 3 step children
were put through hell along with our family, but I was cleared of any
wrongdoing. AND, most importantly, I think how we handled the
situation was looked upon so favorably by FCS that we were deemed a
family that handles stress remarkably well and in the best interest of
our children. Our adoption application was approved and within months
of that approval we have had the blessing of Kathleen, our youngest
daughter, added to our family.
Karen6281 never brought forth court documents requesting custody, or
anything for that matter as a result. Our children have remained in
our home and we have been very happy.
I guess what i would like to say is that although any one of you may
feel that you simply give your opinions freely on the internet, and
people take them or leave them; the reality is that sometimes your
opinion is so smack on appropriate that it can change people's lives.
The worse thing that could have happened to our family is a court
document alleging I abused one of our children came to light. That did
not happen, in part because of your appropriate responses questioning
the reality of the situation .
I hope you, Banty, continue to give your opinions freely, remaining
true to you instincts. There are other people who contributed to
Karen6281's posts in a manner that she did not feel supported, but I
feel strongly that you were very direct and had the most impact.
I give misc.kids and Banty my most heartfelt thank you for how you have
helped myself and most importantly, our children.
