Re: dcps out there... sleep question

I am a new dcp. Be kind to me.

I'm not a dcp but I have used daycare :-) My kids were not easy in the nap
department and they didn't always nap at home. I was rather AP when it came
to sleep. The following is what I would recommend/expect from a DCP.

What do you advise? Aid him in
learning to sleep at this place?

Yes. FWIW I agree. I think he needs the sleep and my second would get
wired like that when he didn't get it.

If so, real life practical tips
would be nice.

Do you have a set nap time that all the non-infants lay down to rest? If so
I would enforce that with this little guy too. I'd just keep hauling him
back to the nap spot if he got up. My provider with Hunter was a single in
home provider but Hunter wasn't wired when he needed sleep so she just
basically let him go until/if he fell over :-) Fine by me as that is what I
did too, lol. Luke was the one that needed the sleep or he'd be like you
describe this little boy. He was in a larger daycare (so more providers
plus all the kids were in same age rooms)..some of the things they did were
a) swing outside until he was really sleepy - weather permitting b) rocked
him c) they had a really good nap time routine where things quieted down,
got dark, they played relaxing music d) all kids were expected to lay down
e) rubbed his back. In the end he slept way better for them then for me
probably because of the routine. They also did naps a little earlier then I
ever managed to at home.

Aid him in getting along better without it?

Good luck with that one. Luke was a fright when he didn't sleep so while I
would not have been a happy mom had they put him in a crib and left him
there to cry I was OK with them enforcing a nap time given the extra care
they took with him.
