Re: flouride toothpaste - good or bad

Fluoride over-ingestion is now an American problem and it's ruining
children's teeth. Upwards of 42% of U.S. school children now have
dental fluorosis - white spotted, yellow or brown and sometimes pitted
teeth from fluoride overdose. (snip)

My own opinion as a chemical engineer and industrial hygenist is that
the topical use of fluoride toothpaste is mildly beneficial as long as
it is not swallowed. Using a flavor that the child does NOT like would
probably help the spit training in this regard.
Fluoridated water should be avoided for drinking and cooking.
Fluoridosis of the teeth is bad enough, its effect on bones and
osteoporosis later in life could be terrible. These ingestion levels
would never be tolerated in a work environment, BTW. The only reason
water fluoridation continues is that many well connected scientists,
politicians and bureaucrats put their reputations on the line and
cannot now admit their error. I predict the eventual lawsuits will
dwarf the asbestos and tobacco cases of the past.-Jitney
