The problem is that *intervening* may make it go on longer. In
general, when you pay attention to tantrums, you teach your child
that when they tantrum they get the attention they want.
Better to ignore the tantrum and work on giving positive attention
when your child is playing nicely or cooperating with you or with
other children.
