Some nuclear reactor issues as they might relate to GE stock

This is the exact same type of reaction that occurs in the majority of
nuclear bombs.. only not exploding for lack of a containment that
allows sufficient pressure to build up accelerating the reaction to a
'blast' phase.
..
The 'fire' term is governments spin to get the people thinking this
mess is a mere fire, that is not seen by the public as such a major
threat by a factor of 100 billion to one.
There are however secondary fires, actual fires.. mere fires..... as
the inches thick stainless steel plates and members got so hot that
they react with oxygen.. that IS a fire, thousands tons of stainless
steel plate actually burning ..but they only do so beyond white hot
temperatures....by tens of thousands degrees.
The radio active cores are already in irreversible melt down mode, and
could go critical to blast levels if not 'moderated'... that means
material insinuated between the fissionable material to absorb
neutrons.
Water won't help at all, but its a good coverr story.
Borate solutions will work... but are not used because the products of
that reaction is the nastiest acid on the face of the earth..
Hydrofluoric acid.... it works this way.. one drop of the material on
your skin, will instantly seek bone, it will penetrate the skin and
muscle and take out the underlying bone.
So that cant' be used to fight fire as it would vaporize and fall out
as HF rain.. the nastiest of most imaginable scenarios.
***
The reason Borates work is that they are 'modifiers' in fission
reactions... fission reactions occur when neutrons come off of a
radioactive decay...the neutrons come off at too much speed though to
effectively strike the other surrounding fissionable material.
something like bowling,,, if the ball is thrown too fast, it will not
create enough turbulence in the pins to get them all down.. a slower
ball works though.
that was the beakthrough insight in nuclear bomb development by Rbt
Openhiemer, father of the atomic bomb. early 1940'
(later he was black listed by govt when he spoke against its use on
civilians). his career ruined and left as a broken man.. that bit of a
trash job has since been smoked over though.. the actual story has
been in print for decades and can still be found.
***
The flames have now died down on two of the reactors after all those
thousands of tons of thick stainless steel plate burned off..
now its into pure melt down mode, not much left to produce visible
flame..... with the fissionables still separated enough not go into
blast mode..
as the melt down continues, depending what else is in the mix.. a
blast creating critical mass could develop.
the attempt next will be to put enough sand on it to vitrify the area
(forming glass) I worked on aspects of that at various DOE
sites..
the molden glass hopefully will work its way between the fissionables
and prevent a final blast phase
(I'm not entirely clear on this final step of such issues. I don't
think anyone is.. we are breaking new ground here. My comments here
are no more than 90% correct on the basic physics involved, and no
more than 50% corect on the remedial aspects.. those have yet to be
developed.. and wide ranges of it are classified.)
The amount of radio active debris could exceed what was released in
Chernobyl by a factor of 7 by some estimates, and a lot more by
others..
This will change Japan and world forever...
.....but by less than half of 1% or so world wide to put it into
perspective... its a huge planet by comparison.
****
There are a few dozen ways to preclude all of such disasters.
The darker side.
One way to get your ass toasted by slime bags is to mention any of
those options if you are inside the industry...
....thats what the movie Silkwood was about (a true story) and its what
I testified about before congress.. and its root causes, the
intellectual corruption of our nations young engineers. (That
testimony if anyone is interested is found in the congressional
record, key words, my name, Hanford, Z plant, dates 1991-1995...(one
of the key plants involved renamed many times since to PFT, and PSSF,
and probably others by now)
PSSF was a carefully worded anagram that sounds out to 'piss off'...
Why are curative or advanced design optons not welcome in many (but
not all) cases?
because the existing designs and practices, in use today, had been
called outas defective in the engineering phase before, and later
when they were in production..
.... any expose of that makes all the slime bags in charge...
culpable. Losses and liability would be in the trillions of dollars,
with more than a few going to prison for criminal malfeasance.
that last few terms are key concepts if you find yourself under attach
by slime bags.
I called Karens father after this mess was over in my case and
thanked him for the courage Karen demonstrated, and for what she did,
and for what I learned from her errors.. errors that got her murdered
by AEC slime bags (proven later in court)
For those interested this is the genesis of my behaviors when it comes
to slime bags...
