In your considered opinion is it silly of me to expect to be hired as
a broker at a local Schwab/TDAmeritrade/etc office? What training
would be required? Outside of getting an extra degree in finance, is
there a shorter route to "certification" that you know about? Do firms
sometimes sponsor "trainees"? even 59-yr old ones?
Any advice will be appreciated.

if you like dealing with lying scum bags, whose primary motivation is
to make money without working, and trying to spin clients into the
most profitable offering of the brokerage....and dressed in 500 dollar
suits... you will love being a broker.

If howenver you have found that intellectual honestiy is vital to
understanding physics, or any viable understanding in life, I think
you will throw up after the companies indoctrination and leave.
