25 yrs as a physics professor.
PhD in nuclear physics.
Teaching awards out the wazoo.
These tell me that I have the mathematical skills and the people
skills to become a stockbroker; a career that has always appealed to
me.
My only financial training has been in studying the ups and downs of
my own portfolio for the past 30 yrs. (Through good brokers, bad
brokers, and my own good and bad decisions.)
In your considered opinion is it silly of me to expect to be hired as
a broker at a local Schwab/TDAmeritrade/etc office? What training
would be required? Outside of getting an extra degree in finance, is
there a shorter route to "certification" that you know about? Do firms
sometimes sponsor "trainees"? even 59-yr old ones?
Any advice will be appreciated.
HG
