Perhaps Jerry means gains from longer than just this year? If you had a stock that was up 100 percent over three years and just dropped 10 percent or more, you might want to sell now before it drops more. This has been a pretty good bull market for about 4 years now so I expect we would see quite a bit of that kind of selling. And yeah, it is going to be tough going forward without foreign investment into the US. But perhaps they will come here as tourists and buy more of our goods since they are cheaper for them now. The government will probably figure out a way to mess that up. ;-)

Gains? Gains this year were marginal and does not make up for the devaluation. In fact if you were a citizen of Canada or even Costa Rica (Costa Rica?) you would have lost money had you invested in the US stock market.
