I use a fund comparison tool that is supposed to compare total returns and it shows the S&P 500 at .49% YTD.

I also have made about 2% YTD (a month ago, I was up about 8%). This,
despite a 33% loss in my largest holding--Relm Wireless (RWC). I still
like it, by the way, and have optimistically committed the sin of
averaging down.
The SP 500 isn't a good benchmark if you have a lot of dividends,
since the index doesn't reflect the yield of its underlying stocks. I
think the total return on the SP 500 is closer to 1% YTD.
