Re: Market's malaise?

Sarp>>> Oh yes, I am very aware of the good/bad of annuities. As a
matter of fact upon retiring all my 401K and pension cash out got
rolled into the Hartford's Variable annuitiy (the Director), and over
all considering what the overall market has done since Apr 2000, we
have done alright. And I understand that if you lock yourself into a
long term interest rate, it can very well go up. But I am not greedy.
If I find one with a sufficiently decent rate, yielding us a tidy
monthly some, than that is GOOD ENOUGH. Don't forget, the rate can go
down also. My investment guy was telling me about one guy who was so
tcikled pink, having locked in a 7.5% rate fairly long term, as all the
rates dove.

I know that laddering is recommended. But I will go by my gut. If I had
a whole bunch to invest, now that CDs are up above 5%, I'd be investing
as long as possible, since they could very well drop back down at any
time, especially with the MORON we have in the White House. I doubt
we'll see the dopuble digit rates ever again, we saw of the 80s. While
my son was growing up, I locked in a 16% yield on CDs at the Credit
Union, for an acct. I had going for my (Then) young son, for something
like SEVEN yrs. Those funds built like you would not believe. But
alass, not too many spare funds today, since having retired at 50
(Seven yrs. ago) our money is locked in under the IRS' 72T rules. Two
years, and 2 months to go, and I don't care if the stock market starts
sceaming like it did back in the 90s. it will ALL go into those fixed
investments, getting rid of all risks and producing my monthly income
for the rest of my life. Our CDs just for April, produced $522. in
interest, and just keeps on a compounding away. Nothing like
compounding :-).
