Green card - citizenship questions

Hi,
Per the present US immigration rules, I guess these rules change every
so often, had a couple of questions -

1. When you have a green-card, how long can you remain outside the US
and then succesffully re-enter the US, without having any problems
with immigration.

2. When you apply for US citizenship, can you leave the country
during its processing time.
