Entering USA

I am a Canadian Citizen and was married to a US citizen in 2000 but
the marriage did not last very long (a few months) and I came back to
Canada, but we never annulled the marriage (at the time I was not a
Canadian Citizen). I tried to enter the US a few years back (around
2002) but I was stopped at the border and was told that I cannot enter
the US for 10 years becasue I had left the US while my US citizenship
case was still underway and I did not acquire appropriate
documentation to cross the border at the time. Now I need to visit
the US for a week on some urgent matter and am wondering if I would be
allowed to enter the US.
