Mine wasnt exactly a run for the border, I just hopped over from
Seattle a few hours drive to see friends in Vancouver. Initially they
werent going to take the i94 when I went to Canada but I asked them to
specifically. I explained that I was worried in case I had problems in
the US when I returned. They didnt have a problem with that and
stamped my passport appropriately. Maybe I was just lucky..but
generally luck rarely comes my way :)
And by your own quote, this was a 'number of years ago'.
I'm talking about *today*.
