Expiration of your GC does not have an effect on your status you are
still a permanent resident. So, my advice is to wait until you get back
to Ohio, or you can get a job

My real advice is to apply for citizenship as soon as you can, then you
don't have to worry about renewing anything.

By the way, what state are in now? And what kind of jobs are you
looking for? I might be able to help. I know this guy who started a
national company and looking for people in the west. He is based in
Conn.
