Thought you got 90 days on a standard passport under the VWP ?

In theory. In practise, do not be surprised if you are hassled at the
airport for a few hours and possibly sent back. I took a sabbatical from
work and wanted to spend 3 mths in the US with my wife and kids visiting
various relatives. Have never had a problem gaining entry before but it was
only for 2-3 weeks. They did not believe us and interrogated us for 3 hours
before eventually letting us in. Not sure how you will get on as a single,
but I would say be prepared for lots of awkward questions and a decent
possibility of being denied entry - the POE staff have the power to refuse
you entry if they are suspicious.
