Re: Heya guys, I'm emmigrating....

.... help !

As usual I've just posted before reading, I'll read some of these
post's later... I promise ( I'm so impatient ! )

Well, what can I say. I've fallen in love with this amazing American
girl, and need to get my ass over to America ASAP ! Yes... you've
probably heard this story a hundred times before and those of you who
have been in the same position can hopefully sympathise with me a
little :D

Well we've been together over 8 months and I love her to bits, she is
quite simply amazing, and I'm desperate to get over to America to be
with her.

Now the obvious answer... and I can all hear you shouting this ...
"Marry her ! you fool ! " .... well yes that would be probably the
easiest way, but I've always made a promise to myself and her that I
would do it on my own because I didn't want her to think the only
reason I would marry her is to get to America. As it happens I would
LOVE to marry this girl, she is quite simply my inspiration and my
only goal at the minute is to be with her ...

I need a job !!! ...

Does anyone know a way of getting into America, fast ! Short of being
good chum's with Bill Gates, or Mr. Bush, how do I do it.

So far I've ascertained the most important thing is a JOB, and then I
need to get a lawyer to help me out with my H-1 visa. This IS
correct... right

Anyway.... Do any of you know of any companies in the UK/US that
specialise in job placement, anyone have any contacts out there that
might be able to help. I work in I.T. and I've added my resume to alot
of the top U.S. companies career sections and signed up to alot of job
agents, monster etc... ( If your interested you can download my
resume from my website here :
http://www.anthonycollings.com/inc/Anthony%20Philip%20Collings.doc )

As an I.T. professional what's the best way of getting work out there
? Is there an easier way !?

Can I sneak into America under the cover of darkness and hopefully
avoid detection !? :p

This is the route I took, it is long and costly. I met my wife whilst
her on a vacation back in Februray 2005. I flew her to the UK in March
2005 for a 3 week vacation. In
April 2005 I decided I wanted to be with her, but did not know her
enough to know I would want to marry her. Plus tongues wag when you
marry so soon, I hear "he only married her for a green card etc".
Anyway, I flew back to the US in April and looked for a job. Securing a
job I applied for a VISA (H1B). Not knowing the system I hired an
attorney. During this time I remained in the US on the VWP. Approaching
90 days I had to leave the US. So I drove my car from Texas to Canada,
sightseeing along the way (the 2,400 mile trip was almost 6,000 miles
with all the sightseeing). I stayed in Canada on a horse ranch for 2
months working as a wrangler (I'm an IT professional, but also ride
horses). I could not work in Canada so worked the ranch for my bed and
board (it was a dude ranch so my work involved taking customers on 15
mile trails rides, and some tractor driving - my first ever). In July I
was told my H1B had been granted. I re-entered the US in late August to
get back to Texas in time for my wifes birthday (2,400 miles in 3
days!), again on the VWP. In October I flew to London to get my visa
stamped in my passport. I re-entered the US in late October to start my
new job in November. The H1B is valid for 3 years. In march 2006 we got
married, a big affair in Vegas with friends and family from the US and
England. In June I filed for AOS, we have our interview in late August.

The VISA and status time-line:
April 2005 - found US job and applied for a VISA (premium processed for
fast reponse)
May 2005 RFE
June 2005 RFE
July 2005 H1B granted
October 2005 VISA stamped in passport
March 2006 Married
June 2006 Filed for AOS
July 2006 Fingerprints taken
August 2006 Interview

Cost:
H1B, including premium processing and attorney fee's - $5,500
AOS Fee's $585 (filed ourselves)

Other costs:
Shipping goods from UK - $7000
Selling car in a hurry and not getting true value $8000
Selling/donating to charity UK appliances and replacing with US ones -
$20,000
Marrying the girl of my dreams - PRICELESS
