it. I always go away with a much better understanding of the big
picture than I get from just reading selective articles; often
times two studies looking at the same thing and coming away with
differing conclusions!

As do two doctors looking at the same thing many times, which do
you believe? I'm curious, but I'm betting it's the one that most
closely follows what you believe and the way your body reacts to
your regimen.

In my particular case I don't seek the opinion of two different
endos because I trust the one I go to so much. They are one of the
tops in the field. Sometimes they disagree with how I see things,
but always explain why. Other times, I do not have an opinion
either way and want to know what they think.

Getting back on track here, Cheri, I'd be interested to know your
opinion (since others who disagree are ducking the question) about
my point regarding the need for an endo. Since it seems that so many
people (well the regulars anyway) report that they got crap advice
from their doctors when they were first diagnosed, why then are they
so adamant about saying that going to an endo is a waste of time for
someone who is newly diagnosed? I'm starting to think maybe they are
just disagreeing because it's me. ;-)

I see an endo. As to Cheri's comment, I wonder if she means
comparing 2 GP's or 2 endos. A GP has very limited knowledge of a
wide range of medical conditions. The average GP's I have seen know
enough about what tests to send you for, what drugs to prescribe and
what doses (according to their PIMS or whatever book - online or
otherwise - that they have access to). They add in a bit of xeroxed
diet and exercise info and that's it.

My endo on the other hand has done years of medical school studying
the endocrine system. When he looks at a paper he understands what
he is reading because he has the background endocrine knowledge.
Coupled with that my endo has actually run trials of meds - usually
cholesterol and diabetic oral drugs. I have great confidence in him
and his current knowledge.

Thanks for weighing in on this, Jan. I agree with everything you said.
My endo is just better equipped to deal with the myriad of things that
come with a disease as complex as diabetes. Glad to hear you have an
endo you trust.

I found mine by accident. I had seen an endo in Sydney for a couple of
pregnancies - in private practice. When I moved out of Sydney and became
pregnant with #6 I also found I had GD again. I was using hospital midwives
for my care but as soon as GD was diagnosed I was told I was high risk and
could only be seen by a registrar not midwives and would have to have my
ante natal care and birth at another hospital. When I transferred my care to
the other, larger hospital I was told I had to be seen every week, not every
month and that I had to see an endo weekly as well.

That hospital did and still does have an endo do half a day per week at the
maternity clinic in the hospital. To my surprise the endo was not only a
private practice doctor (as well as the clinic half day) but he was actually
head of the Endocrinology Dept for the entire areas hospitals. After the
pregnancy I saw him in private rooms until the next pregnancy and it was
back to seeing him weekly in the clinic again :)

I had a break from him for about 3 years until type 2 diagnosis.
