I cannot see, however, why there is a need for perfectly legitimate
(non-troll and not scam) posters to be responded to with vitriol and
comments such as "you're full of ***" by another poster who has taken
exception to their post.
As you say later, you can not prevent this from happening. So it
matters what *you/'we'* do when it *does* happen. 'We' (TINW) should not
respond in kind. I.e. when people are offensive then *we* should respond
as camly as possible (or refrain from responding if we can't). That does
not mean that we should accept offensive behaviour, but just that *we*
should not be offensive in our response. Yes, that's hard, but it's
worthwhile, if only to preserve *our* dignity.
And believe me, I speak from (long-past) experience. I was a flamer or
at least I flamed back when people flamed. Then I grew up.
Rather, the possible inaccuracy of their allegation or assumption, should be
debated - heatedly if necessary, but as rationally as possible.
Yes, that's what we can and should do, and if we're lucky, some of the
flamers will, at least partially, change their ways.
I consider it a tragedy when a poster with even occasionally worthwhile
information - sometimes a poster who may have better things to do than
provide information on a newsgroup - is discouraged from posting by some
other person whose uncivil behaviour they find objectionable - a person who
specialises in and thrives on starting fights. I beg that such posters (I
make no secret that I am thinking of Dr Biggs amongst others) forego their
justified reluctance, and keep on providing input which may help save the
life of many a newbie.
Fully agreed, with the addition of *readers* who are discouraged from
reading.

AS usual too many want to be the top dog. All of us are
just kidding ourselves..
Life is so short and wen we look back, what in the hell did
we prove
It might be better to grow up. We know so little about "what
we call diabetes". But most of us could help others
and then we would have something to be proud about
..
So great? Go the local bar and mouth off. See how long
the crap would last.
Henry, you're full of it! Good intentions that is! :-)
