beef-R is the slowest R, *and* the
most useful in that it has enough tail
action (to roughly 12 hours) so that it
can easily be used 3x by itself. i call
it pseudo pumping
Does that force you to keep to a strict schedule of when you can eat and how much?
no it does not
i'm presently dosing my 90/10 pork/beef-L 2x/day,
very close to my basal needs
same as what you do with your pump,
but with a lot more convenience and
a lot less cost
the only real diff between your diabetic
approach and mine is that you use fast
insulin for your meals, and i use mostly
pork-R for my meals
if i were willing to use 3 insulin types
(and i've done it in the past and have
no problems with doing it again), i'd
go to using aspart as my fast meal insulin
(so then i've have beef/pork/aspart as my
insulin types; and for meal insulin i'd
have slow beef-R, somewhat faster pork-R,
and much faster aspart)
let me give you an example:
yesterday i went shopping and walked
roughly 4 miles. :)
from my log:
5:50AM 109, took thyroid med (Wed. is trash
day and i drag it out to the road by 6:01);
6:15 1.5 pork-R (my b/g usually goes up a small
bit after rising so 109 merits a small shot
(think ahead); 8:45 107, take background shot;
9-3: shop; 10:55 85 (6 raw brazil nuts);
1:20PM sitting at restrauant and low (spotty eyes,
but no need to do anything dumb like taking sugar
coz even though my b/g is low i'm almost at basal
only with my insulin), order meal; salad shows up
(start eating) and at 1:45 7.0 beef-R (all of my
shirt pocket insulin), burger/lite-beer; home
(after 3PM, eat a bowl of frozen blue berries,
and maybe some frozen cherries (memory coz good
as my log is i don't always write everything down);
9:15 274 3.9 pork-R and background shot; go to bed
roughly 10PM (without checking b/g)
from my log for today:
7:30 thyroid meds; 8:35 205 (surprised it was so high),
3.2 pork-R and background shot; 9:30-1:30 9 holes golf
followed by weight lifting; 12:45 43 (in shower room,
after the golf and exer.) dark chocolat (more than
i usually eat) and a lot of mixed raw nuts; 12:25 75
1 bread, cheese, butter (will surely take me too high);
3:45 (as i'm typing this, wouldn't normally take the b/g,
but curious, surprised it isn't higher) 101 6.0 pork-R
for a dinner (in an hour) of 2 bread, sardines, mustard
i never claimed to be a gourmet cook. :)
