Hi Martha. Type 2 diabetes is a state of severe insulin resistance in which
the body does not produce enough insulin to overcome the resistance. If you
lose weight, your insulin resistance will probably drop, and it may drop
enough to allow your insulin to control your glucose level again. If this
happens, you will be "cured" of diabetes. You are likely, however, to remain
insulin resistant, and to become more insulin resistant as you get older.
This may lead to a "relapse" back into diabetes.
Insulin resistance is a relatively new and complicated topic. Good
luck studying it. Russ Farris http://www.potbellysyndrome.com
Hello Russ: Hindsight being 20/20 and having time to review what was said at my last dr's appointment - I'm thinking this is what he meant when he said I would be "cured".
Thanks.
