FYI, my husband had DKA about six years ago the summer after his junior
year in high school. He (and his parents) thought he had the flu;
turned out to be DKA. So, obviously, if you're feeling ill, make sure
to check your blood sugar more often than usual. It's probably pretty
unlikely that it would be DKA (unless you'd been severely uncontrolled
for a long time), but the extra stress on the body can make blood
sugars go crazy, so it's just good to check anyway.
