: Symptoms depend on the severity of the hyperglycemia and its duration.
: The term "hyperglycemia" just means elevated blood glucose levels which
: can be anything from just over the high end of the normal range to 10 or
: 20 times normal levels. Over this range, symptoms can range from none to
: Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) and death. Multi year, or multi decade, sub
: diabetic range hyperglycemia can be completely symptom free until the
: underlying damage caused by the hyperglycemia becomes evident. This is
: how many type 2 diabetics are diagnosed. A few hours of scarily high
: hyperglycemia can be completely unnoticeable. That is why we diabetics
: test our blood glucose values frequently.
: Can you be more specific in your question? Are you looking for the
: standard symptoms of diabetes?
There is yet another symptom of mild hyperglycemia that I've never
seen mentioned on this newsgroup: a feeling of intense physical
robustness. My husband, a longtime diabetic--53 years now--
does his strongest biking when his bloodsugars are in the 160-180
range.
