First post-dx A1c's are in...

and look very nice.

But, since I get to celeberate, let me be verbose.

blood pressure 104/88 112/60
weight(lbs)	171 155	(I'm 5'8" and 3/4)
pulse 78 70 (15 mins after biking 5 miles)
cholesterol	196 177
hdl 44 43
ldl 99 110
vldl 53 24
triglylcerides	319 143
microalbumin	6.9 6.9
glucose 266 101

(drum roll, please)
Hemoglobin A1c	10.1 5.8

Thank you, thank you.

Now, some other notes from the appointment.

1. Doc doesn't want to reduce my meds. I'm currently on 2000mg Metformin; 1000 at breakfast and 1000 at dinner. Which reminds me...

2. Doc doesn't want me testing 1 hour after. Just 2 hours.

3. Doc wants my goal to be 180 at two hours after meal. He feels that
    the goals suggested on
    http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.html are too
aggressive and will be setting myself up for frustration and
    discouragement.

4. drop back testing to 3 times a week, unless I don't feel right.

Obviously, this is something I need to settle on myself. Right now, I'm happy with these lab results, and I'm not sure I see the need to be much more agressive than I already am. I guess I'd like to adjust my breakfast and cut the spike, but I'm not convinced I want to go totally no-carb in the morning, even if I am exceeding 180 (by a little). 200, however, is too high, and I will be working on that.

So, that's where I am. The Spousal Unit and I will have to talk this through. I'll also talk it through some with Chris, a good friend of mine who's and RN and manages the rehab ward at a local hospital. Another friend happens to also be an RN, but he's a wheelchair bound diabetic (t1, I think), so I'm sure he's got some good perspective.

thanks for your encouragement, and I'm looking forward to further advise as I continue this journey.
