Good question. Well Marty, how about this:

We are told by the Aunties - that is the anti-Altie poachers... er,
posters in this newsgroup, that their support of standard
pharmaceuticals is based on scientific "evidence".

Well, fine. So how can it happen, again and again, that these drugs
which pass the supposed scientific process
and which are approved, apparently, by the necessary regulatory
agencies, are found to have SERIOUS, even DEADLY consequences in their
use?

My question: Does Avantia work or is it a dangerous drug that should
never have been approved?

If it works without the alleged bad side effects of heart attack,
which the US government is now suggesting may merit a recall, then
fine. But if, in fact, this drug does in fact have these negative
effects and consequences in its use, then we must question the
"scientific" evidence being used to justify their commercialization.

There seems to be, according to some news reports, allegations that
the manufacturer knew of serious heart attack related problems in the
use of this drug.

A quick search shows questions being raised about Avandia going back
to 2006.

If the current science and regulatory processes are fundamentally
flawed, then the best arguments of the Aunties stand refuted.

Perhaps the time has come to look at truly safe systems of medicine
such as Homeopathy and other alternatives.
