High blood pressure afflicts over 73 millions Americans and kills over
50,000 people a year. For one in three people suffering from this
condition, the traditional treatment is two pharmaceutical drugs
combined. The cause of high blood pressure is not known, however, a
recent study showed that specific type of chiropractic treatment can
reduce high blood pressure by the same amount as the two
pharmaceutical drugs. These findings are an important breakthrough for
alternative medicine.
The double blind study conducted at the University of Chicago showed
blood pressure drops of 17 points that lasted for the eight-week
duration of the study. The study was placebo controlled, and there
were no side effects from the procedure. Traditional pharmacy
treatment of high blood pressure requires the patient to take two
medications in order to obtain a drop of 17 points.

he was known, focused his intention on the whole spine, and his son,

importance of the upper cervical spine.
In the 1940s, two chiropractors, Dr. John Grostic and Dr. Ralph
Gregory founded a branch of chiropractic that taught Grostic
Procedure, which focused exculsively on the upper cervical spine.
Their technique, called Orthospinology, was researched and taught from
1946 until 1964. The word orthospinology stems from the Greek words
orthos (straight) and spine (column). Because of the specific nature
of the adjustments, education in thie method involved instruction in
physics, mathematics as well as the regular medical sciences of
anatomy, physiology, etc. Dr. Gregory went on to refine the upper
cervical technique, and found Nucca in 1966.

Study Finds Special 'Atlas Adjustment' Lowers Blood Pressure

March 16, 2007 -- A special chiropractic adjustment can significantly
lower high blood pressure, a placebo-controlled study suggests.
"This procedure has the effect of not one, but two blood-pressure
medications given in combination," study leader George Bakris, MD,
tells WebMD. "And it seems to be adverse-event free. We saw no side
effects and no problems," adds Bakris, director of the University of
Chicago hypertension center.
Eight weeks after undergoing the procedure, 25 patients with early-
stage high blood pressure had significantly lower blood pressure than
25 similar patients who underwent a sham chiropractic adjustment.
Because patients can't feel the technique, they were unable to tell
which group they were in.
X-rays showed that the procedure realigned the Atlas vertebra -- the
doughnut-like bone at the very top of the spine -- with the spine in
the treated patients, but not in the sham-treated patients..........

PM The notion that a treatment so gentle that patients cannot tell if they are being treated or not can somehow permanently affect the alignment of a vertebra, and even thereby affect the function of blood pressure regulatory mechanisms, none of which are remotely near this area is something that could only arise from within good old-fashioned chiropracty, where *everything* is to do with the spine.
Another matter that I am not obliged to take seriously.
