alternative to anesthesia



I posted this earlier with a different subject line.

I hope I am not too impatient.

I need surgery for an umbilical hernia. Doc says I should get it done
so that it does not become an emergency surgery. He said that it is
not the kind of thing you want to have done in the emergency room.

I have never had a surgery where I am under anesthesia. I'm 70 and
have read where the anesthesia produces significant memory loss in
older people. Memory loss is not good.

What are my alternatives? Hypnosis? Acupuncture? Spinal Block?
