Cat at nursing home is claimed to know when people
are about to die. I'm more inclined to suspect
superstitious behavior on the part of the
nursing staff. It's natural to only remember
the hits and forget the misses.

My guess, and it's only a guess, would be that the cat's sensitive
nose can smell death.
