What would be causing my body odor? I suspect the smell is coming from
my private region. I don't have any STDs or medical problems that would
cause that area to be smelly. The only things I can think of are that I
have anxiety problems and GERD. Other than that I have no ideas.

I don't know if maybe I should try using scented body sprays or use
deodorant around my private region. I find this very disturbing as I
already have problems with self-conciousness.

You may need to simply accept that you have more active glands than
other people. You need to ask the person who mentioned this what the
character of the odor seems to be. A deodorant product from Kiss My
Face is made from a mineral salt of some kind, which comes fragrance
free. Nothing seems to work better in areas where one might perspire.
