"Rich" lies:

Excerpts:

EAST HANOVER, N.J. -- May 23, 2006 -- Novartis Pharmaceuticals
Corporation
today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has
approved updated labeling for its Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder
(ADHD) medication Focalin XR(TM) (dexmethylphenidate HCl)
extended-release
capsules, which describes studies showing that Focalin XR works fast
and is
effective for up to 12 hours. Focalin XR is indicated for the treatment
of
ADHD in adults, adolescents and children.

The most common side effects in adults and children include decreased
appetite, headache, dyspepsia, anxiety, insomnia, feeling jittery and
anorexia.

Side effects of Focalin XR®

"Metabolism/Nutrition: anorexia, weight loss during prolonged therapy"

Yes!

One more reason, the FDA should NOT approve it.

So, Jan, note the "during prolonged therapy." That means that if the
medication is stopped, the anorexia and weight loss go away.

IF???

Anorexia
Nervosa does not just go away with treatment so simple as withdrawing a
medication. It's very hard to treat, and often ends in death. Also,
anorexia nervosa is not just loss of appetite and weight loss. It is a
psychiatric disorder in which the patient becomes obsessed with her body
image, and perceives herself as fat, regardless of how thin she gets.

So..NOW, you decide to tell the *TRUTH*.

Why did you lie before?

I didn't. I just pointed out to you that not all anorexia is anorexia
nervosa.

No, Rich.

I stated:

*Not at all. I am in fact well aware of what *anorexia* means.

In fact it is classified as a *disease*.

You replied:

Not at all. Anorexia is experienced by everybody after a full meal.

[ that's just ONE more reason for the title of this thread.]

There is no
indication that Focalin XR®, or any other ADHD medication, causes this
terrible disease as a side effect. Any finding that that actually
happened would result in the medication being withdrawn.

No, the "anorexia" side effect of this drug, is the simple SYMPTOM of
decreased appetite, which sometimes results in transient weight loss.
The DISEASE of Anorexia Nervosa has NEVER been associated with ADHD
medications.

Your proof of that?

No drug that caused a disease with a 20% mortality rate would be allowed
to continue to be sold.

Ooops.

That is NOT what you said. But you knew that.

So..you have NO proof, as usual.

Just more shoot off of your mouth.

It IS listed AS one of the MOST common side effects!

Anorexia nervosa is NOT listed as a side effect of ANY ADHD medication.

Correct.

YOU added that. Just shows MORE of your DISHONESTY!

Only anorexia, the symptom of decreased appetite is. Are you really that
dense
that you cannot understand that the symptom "anorexia," and the disease
"anorexia nervosa" are two different things?

NO.

Take a look at these:

I already stated I am well aware of what Aneroxia means.

And yet in this very post Jan again states that it is a disease, thus
proving herself wrong.

Give it up Rich. You've already induced Jan to make more of a fool of
herself than usual. An impressive achievement, given how high she has
set the bar.

http://patient.cancerconsultants.com/supportive_treatment.aspx?id=987
"While not all cancer patients will develop anorexia and subsequent weight
loss, anorexia and weight loss are very common. Anorexia may result from
the cancer, chemotherapy, radiation or a variety of other causes,
including physical and psychological causes.

"Anorexia that is a direct result of the cancer occurs in the majority of
patients with advanced-stage cancers. For these patients, the cancer has
changed the way their metabolism works, dramatically impacting their
weight. In addition, cancer can have psychological and social impacts that
cause stress and changes in eating patterns. These changes can lead to
anorexia and weight loss."

http://www.virtualcancercentre.com/symptoms.asp?sid=11

"Loss of appetite is also known as anorexia. Cancer-associated
anorexia is probably due to a combination of physiological changes as well
as the psychological impact of the disease.

"In cancer, there is an increased basal metabolic rate and increased
total energy expenditure. This means that more calories are required to
maintain current weight and lean body mass. This is compounded by a loss
of appetite; hence it is easy to see that people with cancer are at risk
for developing nutritional deficiencies, either as the result of the
cancer itself, or the side effects of common cancer treatments such as
surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy."

A Google search on "anorexia cancer" turns up thousands of similar
referrences. Now are you going to claim that cancer causes anorexia
nervosa, and that all those cancer patients are refusing to eat because
they think they look fat?
