Re: The Cancer Challenge

Sigh. The thing is titled "Nobel Lecture, December 10, 1931." That means
it's the speech he gave to the Nobel Committee and guests when accepting his
Nobel Prize. That makes it an "acceptance speech." You are awfully dense
sometimes.

Um... what? You don't even take the time to follow the link to make
sure you're right about your statement and you call Jan dense? Why
don't you try clicking on the link and reading a little? It should be
clear even to the most dense of people that it is NOT an acceptance
speech. I know what it is for sure, but I would guess this is a
presentation he made to the committee to be considered for the Nobel
Prize... much like the other nominees had to do. Why would he go into
the intricate details of his work (for 15 pages) if he was simply
accepting the Prize?

The only people to "vote" on the subject of the Nobel Prize are the members
of the Nobel Committee. If they VOTE you a Nobel Prize, you get the prize.

Again... what? Every 4 years I vote for a president. Just because I
cast a vote for a person doesn't mean that person gets to be president.
This is knit picking at best. Jan has explained what was meant by
"voted a Nobel Prize." Sure it was a little unclear, but it was
explained. The fact that you and Peter are still harping on this
trivial issue tells me you're struggling to "be right." What does it
matter whether Dr. Warburg won the Nobel Prize once or twice? The
bottom line is that he made great strides in the discovery, prevention
and treatment of cancer that is today largely ignored by medical
science. That's a fact even if he won zero awards for his work.
