You are so full of it. When I go in for surgery they demand to know all
meds including supplements. Just because you can't see any damage from them
doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Some cause excess bleeding like Vitamin E
and there are more. Get off your high horse already. Alternates are Godly
and Rx's are the demon according to you. Well I take both so what? UM MOM

Greater Regulation of Nutritional Supplements Not Justified
To all readers of: misc.health.alternative, uk.people.health,
talk.politics.medicine
Industry advocates insist on the need for an ADE (Adverse Event)
reporting system to monitor dietary supplements despite the fact that
ADE reporting for pharmaceutical drugs, according to FDA, is not more
than 20% effective. They equally ignore the fact that Poison Control
data show fewer potential adverse reactions from the entire spectrum of
dietary supplements as compared to just ONE popular class of
pharmaceutical drugs, analgesics (ie., pain killers.) In refuting
well-publicized iatrogenic mortality studies as presented in JAMA and
other medical journals, their demands are equivalent to requiring that
we all wear seat belts sitting in a parked car, while refuting data
showing thousands of traffic deaths resulting from defective seat
belts.
The assertion that natural medicine practicioners deny their patients
effective mainstream treatment ignores data showing thousands of deaths
resulting from defective regulation of the drug industry, as well as
data pointing to ineffective and dangerous outcomes during hospital
care. These individuals express little or no concern for the real and
glaring failures on the part of FDA to protect the public, or for the
failure of Big Pharma to perform long-term safety studies on
pharmaceutical drugs before going to market.
Why the focus on dietary supplements? The call for an ineffective ADE
reporting system, additional regulatory oversight, and a classification
system that treats high-dose nutrients the same as drugs, exposes
independent supplement makers to the market-busting tactics of the
multi-national conglomerate drug makers. The goal is to reduce the
threat posed by the growing interest in natural medicine, its potential
to reduce profits from canabolized drug sales (in the case of
manufacturers of both), and eliminate meaningful competition from
non-drug vitamin companies, which now generate billions in annual
revenue. This protectionist scheme is not about consumer protection,
but profits and control of markets. The pharmaceutical companies are
well aware that more than one-third of all Americans, and an even
higher ratio of Europeans, are relying on some form of natural medicine
for their health and wellbeing, a trend that directly impacts Big
Pharma revenues.
There are several legislative assaults being launched to restrict your
access to life-saving nutritional products, and your voice must be
heard in order to make a difference. To combat various bills
introduced to the US Senate, and to address attempts to influence the
UN-sponsored CODEX Alimentarius with junk science funded by industry, a
broad, grass roots effort by millions of natural medicine users must
gain momentum. We must not permit industry to eliminate our access to
effective potencies of vitamin and mineral supplements, which under the
CODEX would apply by law to all WTO member states under threat of
sanction. To support the legal fight to protect consumer rights on
