Will You Die Of Old Age?

How to Live Longer by Protecting Your Health.
Current medical research suggests more and more strongly that
people seldom die of old age - something else gets us first, such as
virus-caused disease, one of the degenerative diseases such as cancer,
heart disease or other organ failure.
For many such diseases there are no known cures, yet, and the evidence
points to the fact that these diseases are on the increase rather than
declining, particularly amongst meat eaters who are likely to suffer
from such diseases ten years earlier than vegetarians. This shows that
there is something we can do about these diseases by taking protective
steps to begin with, through making lifestyle choices.
For example, we may choose a diet, which is nearer to the Eskimo, and
the Japanese diet, with plenty of oily fish (mackerel, herring, salmon,
sardines, pilchards, tuna, trout etc) and reduce the likelihood of the
heart attacks, which are so prevalent in Western societies, but almost
non-existent amongst the Japanese and Eskimos. That is because the
Omega 3 fish oils prevent the red blood cells from sticking together
and clotting.
If we want to live longer we need to take responsibility for our own
health instead of handing over the responsibility for our sickness to
doctors and hospitals when it is too late. The old adage is true:
prevention is better than cure. You don't 'suddenly' get cancer,
it is normally a slow build up over years of poor diet and lifestyle
pressures.
The trend towards seizing back control of our lives from the medical
profession has already begun, writes a guru of the future, "Patients
are becoming more demanding and have come to realise that doctors are
not gods. Doctors do not always know as much as they make out. There
will be an even greater shift away from the conventional
pharmaceutically based medicine as more and more people take
responsibility for their own wellness; holistic and Eastern medicine
will become increasingly accepted in the West and will continue to be
resisted by the medical establishment."
The Two HealthCare Models
If you like, there are two models of healthcare:
The first, the one generally practised by most Western societies, goes
something like this: You become ill. You go to your Doctor. You get a
prescription for antibiotics or other drugs or you go into hospital for
surgery or other invasive treatment. You recover and wait for the next
illness to strike and pay the next visit to the doctor for the next
overhaul. These events get progressively more frequent the older we
get. We call this the ILL Health Model.
The second goes something like this:
You take on board the responsibility of looking after your own health
by a programme of healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. If you have
failed to do this up to this point you need to start doing it fast to
maximise what potential health you have left. You adopt ways of
countering the effect of poor nutrition from modern foods and the
pervasive pollution that damages our bodies. You stay healthier and
live longer. We call this the Keep Healthy Model.
Now, which model makes sense to you?
Our Bodies Are Rusting Away
All right, so we accept generally that living an unhealthy lifestyle
isn't good for us and that pollution and food with poor nutritional
value isn't healthy. But what is actually happening to our bodies?
Why do we fall prey to degenerative diseases?
The truth is that our bodies are rusting away. Not actually rusting,
but decaying from essentially the same process called oxidisation.
Oxidisation is caused by free radicals - incomplete molecules that
latch onto other cells for their own composition or survival, disabling
our immune system and destroying the body. Free radicals are the bad
guys!
These free radicals come from various sources - from poor nutrition
caused by the depletion of our soils (modern farming takes out a wide
range of nutrients from the soil and puts back only a couple to
stimulate growth and produce bigger harvests) and from pollution by
chemical and similar environmental toxins. It is estimated that on
average we have to eliminate from our bodies around two heaped
teaspoons of dust, pollen, tar, smoke, acid, bacteria, metals, carbon
rubber, plastic etc, every day! Not all these substances will be
eliminated and will stay behind to create free radical damage. If you
choose to smoke you are introducing over 100 000 free radicals... every
single puff!!
If you want to see what happens in the oxidisation process simply cut
an apple in half you can actually watch as it turn brown - it's
beginning to go bad. That's oxidisation. Look at your car,
particularly underneath or where it has been scratched. It turns rusty
and flakes away into holes - the metal is eaten away. That's
oxidisation.
Oxidisation is one of the basic processes of nature and has some
beneficial effects as oxygen free radicals burn up bacteria and other
impurities in the body. However, without good nutritional 'fuel'
- the minerals, vitamins and enzymes that should provide the
balancing antioxidants within the body, the free radicals multiply out
of control, become unstable and begin to attack the body cells. Free
radicals can interfere with the coding of our DNA, disabling enzymes
and cell functions, which seriously damages our immune system leading
to strokes, diabetes, cataracts, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, tooth
decay, respiratory tract infections, mental illness etc.
The problem of pollution and poor agricultural practice is compounded
by the fact that most of the food we eat - processed, frozen and
fresh - is depleted - it doesn't contain the essential vitamins,
minerals and enzymes which the body needs to replenish its stores. Just
look at a strawberry, for instance, in the winter months. It's
practically white inside instead of red. This is because strawberries,
in the northern hemisphere were not meant to be eaten in the winter
months and are sorely lacking in any nutritional value at this time of
the year. This depletion of our food, especially our fruit and
vegetables, allows free radicals the scope to carry on their
destructive work. How can we stop this process - or at least slow it
down?
Your Body Needs Antioxidants
As you might imagine, what we need are protective antioxidants.
Antioxidants are the good guys! Most people are familiar with the fact
that vitamin C is good for you. That's because it is an antioxidant.
Vitamin E, beta-carotene (found in fruit and vegetables) and vitamin A
are also powerful antioxidants.
However, there are more powerful antioxidants such as pycnogenol
(sometimes 'picnogenol' - both are protected trade names) or,
more precisely, oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs). These are
powerful plant based phytochemical substances, which prevent plants
being destroyed by the free radical damage that can be caused by
sunshine. OPCs give the same protection to us by improving
circulation, reducing inflammation and strengthening cell walls,
preventing, and even reversing damage."
French scientist Jacques Masquelier, Professor Emeritus at the
University of Bordeaux, was the modern discoverer of these OPCs, which
are found in grape seed extract. Maritime Pine Bark, cranberries,
peanut skins and other sources. How did Masquelier stumble on such a
powerful discovery? He read it in a 400-year-old book!
When he was visiting Canada in the late 1940's Masquelier picked up a
book by the French explorer Jacques Cartier Voyages au Canada in which
he described how he and his 110 men were trapped by frozen seas in the
Gulf of St Lawrence from November 1534 to April 1535. He describes how
his men were suffering from Scurvy, trapped by five feet of ice and
four feet of snow, towering high above the decks of their ships. Five
men had died. Another forty were on the point of dying and all but a
handful of the rest were severely ill.
He wrote:
"One day, our captain, taking note of the spreading sickness, and the
condition of his men, left the fort and walking on the ice, observed a
group of people from Stadacone (an Indian tribe) among whom was Agaya
whom the captain had seen ten or twelve days before suffering from the
same illness that affected our crew; one of his legs had shrunk to the
size of a two year olds at the knee with all loss of sensation, he had
lost most of his teeth and the remaining teeth were rotten along with
rotted and infected gums. The captain seeing Agaya healthy and alert
was overjoyed, hoping to learn of the circumstances of the cure, and
how he might help his own crew. Agaya responded that he was cured with
the liquid and residue from the leaves of a tree, and that was the sole
cure for the illness. The Captain asked him if there were any such
trees in the vicinity of the fort and told him that his cabin boy had
come down with an illness, not wishing to let Agaya know the extent to
which his crew had been affected.
At that point Agaya sent two women with our captain and they gathered
nine or ten branches; and they showed us how to strip the leaves and
pull the bark from the branches, and to boil them in water, then to
drink the water every other day, and to put the dregs on the inflamed
legs. They informed him that the tree cured all maladies. In their
language, the tree is called Annedda.
Shortly, thereafter, the Captain made a beverage for the sick members
of the crew of whom only one or two were courageous enough to try it.
As soon as they had taken it, they asked for more which turned out to
be a miracle as for every illness with which they were afflicted, they
were cured and restored to health after having drunk the brew only two
or three times; such that the crew who had syphilis for five or six
years were completely cured.
After having seen all that, the crew was ready to kill to get the
medicine. This wonderful tree has done in less than a week what all
the physicians of Louvain and Montpelier, using all the drugs of
Alexandria, would not be able to accomplish in a year. Thanks to God,
everyone who used the remedy was cured and restored to good health".
After concluding his researches into the properties of Maritime Pine
bark and the OPCs derived from it, it is little wonder that Dr
Masquelier declared: 'I firmly believe that free radicals will be the
major health issue in the years to come, and that scavengers of free
radicals will play a decisive role in many important aspects of
health".
What OPCs Can Do?
Research on the Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins suggests that they can:
Improve skin smoothness and elasticity
Strengthen capillaries, arteries and veins
Improve circulation and enhance cell regeneration and vitality
Reduce capillary fragility, improving resistance to bruising and
strokes
Reduce the risk of phlebitis
Reduce oedema and swelling of legs
Help restless leg syndrome
Ease hay fever
Reduce diabetic retinopathy
Improve visual acuity
Reduce the effects of stress
Improve memory
Improve joint flexibility and ease inflammation in the joints
Help relieve sports injuries
All these seemingly miraculous effects are due to the basic action of
OPCs in strengthening and repairing capillary walls.
Should you be taking an OPC Supplement?
The answer to this question is, of course, one of personal choice.
Certainly, if you want to live longer, enjoy a greater degree of bodily
and mental health and well being, there is a strong case for regular
supplementation. A leading nutritionist says:
"Since the 1980s more and more research has confirmed that many of
the twentieth century's most common diseases are associated with a
shortage of antioxidant nutrients, and helped by their supplementation.
The common denominator in the process of ageing and its associated
diseases is called oxidative damage. This has put the spotlight on the
use of antioxidants - nutrients that help protect the body from this
damage by preventing and treating disease... Their presence in your
diet and levels in the blood may prove to be the best marker yet of
your power to delay death and prevent disease".
The message is clear: If you want to live longer and be healthier,
take an antioxidant supplement.
NOTE
The information in this report is drawn from a variety of sources and
is for education only. While taking OPC-based food supplements should
have no ill effects it is advisable to consult your medical
practitioner for any medical condition and before taking supplements of
any kind.

Are You What You Eat Or Should Eat?
Our bodies need 90 different nutrients in our diet on a daily basis for
optimum health.
These nutrients include 60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 amino acids, and 3
essential fatty acids. Due to the farming de-mineralisation' of our
soils and the methods of packaging and transporting our fruit and
vegetables we get very little of these in our daily diets.
Hence all these above levels of nutrients have been declining in our
own bodies over the last twenty years. In the meantime the toxicity
levels from the pollution of our food and environmental sources have
increased our risks of ill health. Did you know, for instance, that
flying greatly increases your exposure to free radicals?
Even our children have been put at risk, as the formula fed to human
babies does not contain more than 12 minerals.
On the other hand steers/cattle reared for slaughter (i.e. fast-big
business needs) - are fed a daily diet containing 40 to 50 minerals.
Our pets are by far the best off as they are fed a balanced diet of all
the essential nutrients (again this is for big business purposes).
Now you do not find our cats or dogs keeling over with chest pains or
any of the damaging diseases you and I have been forced to accept. No
wonder that the costs of National or even Private Health has escalated
so much over the years - with greatly increased profits for the major
pharmaceutical companies. You will remember that at the beginning of
this report we mentioned the two Healthcare Models. Look at the Ill
Health Model' and you will understand this has come about without our
being able to do anything about it much till now.
On page 2 of our report you will remember the two-heaped teaspoons of
debris we need to eliminate from our bodies every day. By definition
you will see this as a residual/on going source creating further free
radical damage.
This rot must be stopped before any further effective progress to good
health can be made.
It is for this purpose we are concentrating on this report on
anti-oxidants and to some extent heart disease - still the leading
cause of death in the UK! Obesity is now a big problem plus stress and
aging.
The Way Back
Experts believe that poor nutrition can lead to low levels of brain
chemicals that control mood and aggression. This is one of the reasons
that many of our children become unruly.
Most of us have probably heard about a link between food additives and
hyperactivity in some children and teenagers. A recent TV programme in
the UK by the popular chef, Jamie Oliver, highlighted the junk being
fed to our children in many school dinners. His solution? More fresh
fruit and vegetables and the elimination of processed food such as
re-constituted chicken and turkey.
All children and adults can therefore benefit from a better diet. As
adults we normally sacrifice for our children but we are losing our
capability to produce certain hormones and other essential factors.
Is it therefore surprising that stress and incapacity surrounds so many
of us!
In stark comparison I now go back to the 2nd Page 'Keep Healthy
Model'
Yes, you need to take on board the responsibility of looking after your
health by a programme of healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. If you
have failed to do this up to now you need to start doing it fast to
maximise what potential health you have left. You adopt ways of
countering the effects of poor nutrition from many foods and the
perverse pollution that damages our bodies. You stay healthier and
live longer. This 'Keep Healthy Model' must make sense to you!
Since we are all prone to the manipulation of disorder to our natural
defences from toxins and free radical damage, the fundamental and first
step is to Stop the Rot!
Initially this must come through the regular use of a powerful
antioxidant supplement as discussed later.
The Sooner You Start The Better
· Many of the seemingly inevitable diseases of aging, heart disease,
osteoporosis, senility, failing eyesight and many more are not
inevitable at all. They can be easily prevented or ameriolated by
avoiding the causes of aging.
· What makes us age? In a large part, it's what you eat. In the
westernised world we eat far too much sugar, refined carbohydrates and
processed fats.
· These foods cause blood sugar disorders and obesity. The first
steps down the slippery slope to heart disease, kidney disease, and a
host of other life-shortening ailments.
· The typical American diet is a recipe for the one thing that will
age you faster than anything; high blood pressure and the elevated
insulin levels that invariably accompany it.
· A low carbohydrate, high protein diet is the single most effective
way to lose weight and to normalise your blood sugar.
· Most researchers today agree that the underlying cause of aging and
degenerative diseases, especially the accelerated aging that flows from
the western diet, is accumulated damage to our bodies from free
radicals.
· Antioxidants - the defying foods, vitamins, minerals, and other
supplements that prevent or block damage from free radicals.
· Antioxidants in the diet should come primarily from fresh
vegetables and fruits and unrefined carbohydrates.
A diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates has little room for
these foods.
To defy age, we must also use a range of safe, highly effective
antioxidant supplements.
The Disturbing Statistics on Heart Disease
Heart Disease is still the leading cause of death (in the USA) and it
has killed some 727,000 people in 1997 (and is rising).
Today you are more likely to survive a heart attack, but your chance of
still being alive five years later have hardly budged over the past
twenty years. Some 24% of men and 42% of women will die within one
year of having a myocardial infarction within six years of a first
heart attack, 21% of men and 33% of women will have another, 7% of men
and women will experience sudden death and 21% men and 30% of women
will be disabled with heart failure.
As such we are experiencing an epidemic of heart failure instead,
because a myocardial infarction damages and weakens your heart, causing
it to gradually stop working efficiently.
The number of heart failure patients nearly doubled in the ten years
from 1989-1998.
In many cases, heart failure is simply the delayed result of having a
heart attack and being treated by conventional doctors with cholesterol
lowering static drugs. These drugs block your ability to produce
co-enzyme C10 that is essential for producing energy in your cells,
especially your heart cells. A shortage of C10 is almost certain to
make a weakened heart get weaker and fail.
You might find it surprising that heart disease, the illness that
causes the premature death in most of us, was virtually unheard of
seventy five years ago.
We can sum this up as 'the diseases of Western Gate'.
Progressively from that time heart disease, diabetes, hypertension,
cancer, Alzheimer's disease and other maladies have all originated,
or at least achieved epidemic proportions in the 20th Century. Now
they are getting more widespread in the 21st Century.
Objective observers have every right to say 'we made progress in
overcoming infectious diseases and conditions that strike us down in
your youth, but the older ones amongst us still reach senility at
approximately the same age'. Eradicate the quintessential 20th
Century ailment, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease - and we
will, scientists have estimated, extend our collective life expectancy
by twelve years.
Imagine that, starting now, we could begin to reduce the incidence of
heart disease, now the number one cause of mortality in the
industrialised worlds, we would gain an estimated twelve years or more
of life expectancy - and of course avoid the years of ill health that
heart disease can cause before it beats us.
· If we could further eliminate diabetes, stroke, obesity and
hypertension, all major contribution to causes of death other than
heart disease, the gain in our life expectancy would be even greater.
· For reasons that we shall reveal in another special report it is no
coincidence that the majority of illnesses that distinguish today's
'killer diseases' are diet-related disorders.
PS Are we to blame for this - the answer is NO, not entirely!
PPS Are supplements - corrections to our diets needed - YES
definitely!
Finally do not forget our children. Too many are going down with
recurring coughs, bugs and illnesses? It seems a safe bet that given a
choice, children would be likely to choose chocolate over carrots.
And, as a parent, it's tough to control everything your children eat.
We are now hearing about early obesity in adolescents. Is there a safe
supplement which ideal for children? The answer is yes.
You can now take the guesswork out of your child's nutrition with a
much tried and tested product called Juice Plus+®, a chewable tablet
providing advanced nutrition with a full day's worth of vitamins,
minerals and antioxidants, and phytonutrient extracts from fruits and
vegetables. In fact there is little else in it except pure fruit and
vegetables.
Juice Plus+® has no dyes, preservatives, sucrose or artificial
sweeteners in it. Give your kids a hug and a kiss and the whole family
will be on their way to a great day.
Well, there you are, you can put yourself, your loved ones,
particularly your children, on an even keel with your pets at long
last!
Weight/Age Management
When dieting and working out, the goal is to lose fat whilst
maintaining and setting lean body mass. Obviously, combating obesity is
very important in this respect and recent media statements that state
the 'Human Race' is turning fat' backed up by 'now we are
expanding outwards due to quick food and lack of exercise' all
support the argument that things will get rapidly worse if we do not do
anything about it (see last page of this special report).
In many ways it can be stated that if we do not get the right nutrition
from our food (which we cannot, for reasons explained elsewhere), then
free radical damage continue to flourish. Our focus therefore should be
to attack the free radicals inside us and prevent further damage from
new ones through the use of the strongest and most effective
anti-oxidant available.
During pre-historic times, many soils contained more than 70 major and
trace minerals. Because modern farming practices have largely (very
greatly) depleted our land, very many of these minerals are now largely
unavailable to us within the fruits and vegetables we eat.
Every one of us needs the building blocks of a healthy foundation, so
let's start, and end, our day with exceptional, essential vitamins
and minerals.
How can we add these lost elements back into our diets?
"Eat more fruits and vegetables."
It's the one recommendation in almost every diet plan, every guide to
nutrition, every fitness book. Even organizations such as the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, the World Health Organization, the National
Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the
American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society agree. But
as much as it's preached, most people still don't eat enough fruits
and vegetables every day.
That's why there's Juice Plus+®.
