One of the persons responsible for running the exhibition gave further
insight into the state of the supplement industry (a comment to the
blog) ----

"Clearly, the vast majority of exhibitors at our events are responsible
organizations. And for those who want to play by the rules, we offer a
variety of courses on compliance through our www.nutrilearn.com service.
With the barrier to entry so low, the enforcement effort from government so
weak, and the potential for profit so high, it is not surprising that we
continue to see companies doing it the wrong way. Unfortunately there is no
simple solution to this problem. It will take a committed effort by all
stakeholders. And while we all talk about quality, self regulation, bad
actors, etc., I wonder how strong the industry's commitment to take action
really is. Clearly the bad actors are buying their ingredients from someone.
Are companies willing to turn away business from a customer that is out of
compliance? And are the shareholders and CFOs ready to take the hit? And
even if your answer is yes, are there companies that will gladly pick up the
business that you've turned away? What should be done about them?"
