Nah, asterisks is me, I use them to emphasise a word. Another way is
to put _underscores_ around a word. In some newsreaders underscores
show up as underlined, asterisks as bold and /slashes/ as italic.

I mainly use asterisks as emphasis because my word processor has
that as a short cut for making text bold.

You're safe unless you descend into the realm of multiple ellipses
per sentence, or worse still *partial* ellipses. :)
