I agree entirely and have been preaching that mantra for more years
than I care to mention.

Under the regime proposed above I have calculated that a modest 250
calories a day could be burned, giving an approximate weight loss per
week of only half a pound.

However, a modest calorie restriction intake of only 500 calories a
day, would produce a weight reduction of 1lb per week. Obviously the
two combined could produce much better results.

It really does not work that way. If energy expense equaled deficit in
real life, we would not be able to survive an active lifestyle at all,
because we would effectively starve. But we can, which means that we
obviously compensate the increased expense with increase in the amount
we eat.

The main concern for my two office-bound chums is their health and
well-being, which with a modest diet and the exercise above could be
considerably enhanced.

I do believe you are right here, even if I think that it all works in a
bit different way.
