Does anyone know who makes the generic olympic weight plates sold at
places like play it again sports. They say "standard barbell" on
them, even though they are olympic sized. I've looked everywhere on
the net and cannot find them for sale. the closest i've come is
Champion Barbell plates at amazon. There seem to be a few different
types, (some more rounded than others, some have more uniform letter
sizes than others too) I'd just like to pick up a few more 25s, 35s,
and 45s to add to my set, and have them match.
Also has anyone tried to fix up older rusted weight plates? I fixed
up a rusted set of 1-1/4 LBS olympic plates I found @ playitagain by
wire brushing them then painting with rustoleum. But then i got an
idea, if the expensive plates are the rubber encased ones, why not use
like the spray on - bedliner or tool-dip to rubberize the outsides.
Has anyone tried this?
I believe the really fancy plates are solid rubber, not just rubberized
cast iron. I don't know for sure, though, as I don't own any :).
That's why they bounce when the Olympic lifters drop them from the top
of the snatch position.
